Nipun himself suffers from arthrogryposis, which severely limits his ability to move without a wheelchair and a modified van.<\/p>\n<p>Our goal was to ensure that no person with a locomotor disability should be excluded from public transportation. In India, there is a lot of stigma associated with disability \u2013 so much so, that some parents hide disabled kids at home and do not provide opportunities for education or social growth. The lack of accessible public transport only compounds their social ostracization.<\/p>\n<p>We filed a \u2018Public Interest Litigation\u2019 (PIL) petition in the Delhi High Court on behalf of every disabled person in Delhi,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/cities\/delhi\/delhi-govt-request-for-1000-buses-under-scanner-standard-floor-buses-not-disabled-friendly-high-court-takes-note-5201895\/\">challenging the acquisition of non-low-floor accessible buses as being violative of the disabled community\u2019s guaranteed fundamental right to life<\/a>&nbsp;(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.constitutionofindia.net\/constitution_of_india\/fundamental_rights\/articles\/Article%2021#:~:text=Constitution%20of%20India&amp;text=Protection%20of%20life%20and%20personal%20liberty.&amp;text=No%20person%20shall%20be%20deprived,to%20procedure%20established%20by%20law.\">Article 21 of the Indian Constitution)<\/a>&nbsp;and statutory rights of accessibility guaranteed under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiatvnews.com\/news\/india-delhi-hc-slams-aap-government-for-not-buying-disabled-friendly-buses-416831\">The Court agreed<\/a>&nbsp;with our interpretation of not only Articles, 21 and 19(1)(d) but also our argument that Article 15 of the Indian Constitution prohibited discrimination on the basis of \u2018place of birth\u2019 \u2013 a \u2018legal right,\u2019 which we argued would attach to those born with congenital defects inside the womb (thus expanding the meaning of \u2018place of birth\u2019 to include \u2018the womb\u2019).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The end result was that the Delhi Government was compelled to state on affidavit before the Court,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/inc42.com\/buzz\/delhi-government-assures-supreme-court-to-induct-1000-low-floor-electric-buses\/\">that it would not only purchase low-floor accessible buses<\/a>&nbsp;going forth but that it would retrofit existing standard-floor buses with hydraulic ramps.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"has_eae_slider elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-inner-column elementor-element elementor-element-e6e2e68\" data-id=\"e6e2e68\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d70c280 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d70c280\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Delhi High Court Order dt. 01.06.2018<\/h4>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eae31a0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"eae31a0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<style>\/*!
